As Above // Jo is a 60-year-old alcoholic now eight years sober and ten years estranged from her daughter – once a prominent botanical researcher, Jo is now rebuilding her life and starting a new relationship with the too-good-to-be-true Rick. But strange things keep happening. She wakes up one morning covered in scratch marks – another morning, she is panicked after feeling hung-over despite her sobriety. A mysterious phone call from a person from her past sends her on an urgent quest to find her daughter, as aspects of her research bleed into her personal life in unexpected and life-changing ways. Adriana, a hotel floor manager reeling from a family loss, has a chance encounter with Sarah, a Canadian wedding guest with a long-held traumatic secret—when their worlds collide on a fateful rainy night, both women are forced to face their past and all that they’ve tried to keep hidden. Her best friend, Kristen, is embarking on a rebound romance, and things get complicated when Isabelle’s wing-man duties cross the line. This new comedy launches Cyrano de Bergerac into the 21st century: mistaken identities, millennial manifestos, and the quest for self-love. What’s your love story?
Selfie // A new year of high school is full of excitement and potential—but three teens didn’t expect it to bring such a dark change to their lives. After spending a summer reinventing herself in Paris, Emma is ready for her new life to start, while her best friend Lily is eager for them to reconnect. Lily throws a last-minute party fuelled by alcohol and Instagram, which leads to a long-awaited encounter between Emma and Lily’s older brother Chris. But the next day Emma feels that something went terribly wrong. When a doctor’s appointment and a visit from police confirm that there was a sexual assault at the party, and the whole school turns against Emma, the three friends grapple with what actually happened between Emma and Chris. This smart and intense play about the complexities of relationships and community opens up a much-needed conversation about the nature of consent. Never The Last, created with Molly MacKinnon // The story follows the passionate relationship between Sophie Carmen Eckhardt-Gramatté, one of the most innovative composers of early twentieth century Europe, and expressionist painter Walter Gramatté. The couple’s 10 years of marriage, marked by adventure, poverty, artistic strife, and tragedy, is captured in Eckhardt-Gramatté’s 10 rarely performed violin solos. Never The Last seamlessly blends classical violin performances, movement, and text to tell the heartbreaking story of two people in love, and the ever increasing space between them. Premiered April 2019 in Vancouver with Delinquent Theatre; this production is touring to Theatre Passe Muraille in April 2023.
